3. Can I get the specific size I need?

Yes! With a Fabric-StructureTM you can get virtually any size. We have engineered and built clear span structures that are over 300' wide, and 60' wide structures that are as tall as a six story building. Fabric-Shelters on the other hand are limited to standard sizes and options on most models. Fabric-Shelters are kept economical by creating “packages” that are sold as kits.

4. What are tensioned fabric structures?

  • Tensioned fabric structures start with metal frames. A flexible cover is tightened over the frame to create a tensioned structure.
  • Incredibly strong fabrics make it possible to construct extremely large clear-span structures.
  • Some of the largest stadiums, shopping malls, airports and other large commercial structures are tensioned fabric structures.

5. What goes into our products?

Fabric-Structures, unlike some of our competitors, use only American made materials. Our covers are made from Architectural grade PVC vinyl fabrics which meet or exceed Federal and California fire retardancy requirements. Fabric-Shelters generally use reinforced polypropylene covers, however a fire retardant fabric is available.

The steel is used in either a Fabric-Structure or Fabric-Shelter is exactly the same for either line, only the rib design, diameter and gauge changes. We use mechanical grade structural steel tubing which is hot dipped galvanized on the inside and outside, then coated by a process that leaves a smooth non abrasive surface thereby extending the life of the cover.

7. Can Fabric-Structures and Fabric-Shelters handle heavy snow loads?

Fabric-Structures are engineered to meet the snow load conditions for the area in which they are to be used from 20-40 psf . Fabric-Shelters do not carry specific wind or snow loads but because of the 50% rise of the Quonset style, they tend to shed much of the snow. Most Fabric-Shelters have rib spacing on 4' centers but all can be ordered with 3' centering which will increase their load bearing. Should you be in an area with heavy snow fall and you take adequate precautions you can safely use a Fabric-Shelter with 3' rib spacing. You can find Fabric-StructuresTM and Fabric-SheltersTM in Alaska, the Northwest Territories, Greenland, and many other extreme locations around the world. In fact some of our components have even been tested at the North Pole to ensure their integrity in the harshest environments.

11. How are Fabric Shelters TM and Fabric Structures TM anchored?
Fabric Shelters TM and Fabric Structures TM up to 60' wide do not require any kind of footing or foundation. If the shelter or structure is to be placed on virgin earth or on asphalt, we supply helix auger anchors. These anchors are similar to mobile home anchors, only longer than the average mobile home anchor. These anchors, depending on soil conditions can either be “augered” (screwed) into the ground or a hole can be dug and the anchor buried and the hole back filled and compacted. If you plan to mount your shelter or structure concrete or pilings anchoring is very simple. We supply mounting plates through which you will place your expansion anchors or bolts. This is the easiest and fastest anchoring method. Simply, layout your Fabric Shelter or Fabric Structure and square it. Using a hammer drill, drill right through the mounting plate hole into the concrete or piling, then insert your expansion anchor or bolts. Because concrete thicknesses and densities vary, we do not supply expansion anchors or nuts and bolts for anchoring to concrete or pilings.
